WORLD ANIMAL DAY CELEBRATION

Special thanks to everyone who participated in our Banfield Animal Wellness event on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at The Big Fix.

Four Banfield veterinarians and fourteen vet techs provided free exams, vaccinations, heartworm tests, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention, nail trims and wormer for 150 lucky dogs and cats.

Banfield also gave every family a gift bag with treats and useful pet items.

UCC volunteers gave pet owners peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a gift bag with Vienna, crackers, candy and cookies. Cold drinks and water were served to all at The Big Fix Hospitality Tent. Every animal received treats and lots of TLC. Pet toys and other items were available to our families for a donation to our spay and neuter program.

We received a huge donation of Red Cross blankets, which were given to our families that day. Everyone went home with a loaf of sandwich bread, bags of treats and gifts.  :)

All workers were served Domino's pizza for lunch.

Many precious animals went home free of parasites and protected from deadly disease.

To the few families who were not seen by a veterinarian: WE ARE SO SORRY!!!! Banfield did not expect the huge crowd and supplies ran out before everyone was seen. Thank you so much for understanding.

We could not do any of this without YOU!!!! Our UCC volunteers,
Food Lion, Wal-Mart, Petsmart - our loyal supporters who
donated the good stuff for our gift bags, and the treats for our animals.

What a day!!!

Shelby, UCC Director

UNCHAIN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

"There has never been a time in my life that I was not involved in animal rescue. There was never a day that I doubted my purpose on this earth. I have never turned away a homeless animal and I never will. However, everything about my purpose changed when I found Rhudy, a Chocolate Lab, on my back porch in 2008, starved and suffering, a chain grown into his scrawny neck.

As I treated the gaping wounds, I realized that all my tears and all my heartache would not stop the cruelty; my anger would not punish his abuser. It was Rhudy who changed the direction of my efforts for animal rights.

Nothing I’ve ever done before prepared me for “Laws and Ordinances”, certainly not hairdressing and raising a family. However, it seems that I was led by an unseen hand to the right people at the right time to help me stop the cruel and dangerous practice of chaining dogs. Cumberland County now has the best anti-tethering ordinance in the state of NC, which allows no chaining whatsoever.

It has been an amazing journey and it’s just begun. The best is yet to come… "
